Thrifty Thursday – 10th Edition
Thrifty Thursday
Each week I bring to you helpful tips to become a more effective educator on the Always A Lesson fan page on Facebook. (Give it a quick like by clicking here!) I decided to start grouping my social media posts into a blog post incase you might have missed anything.
Time to get caught up:
- Empty water bottles make for great storage containers for students’ often used supplies like pencils or erasers
- Dollar stores have affordable everyday materials for science experiments, math centers and reward items
- One stack of paper or plastic cups make for great science, math or sensory centers! Just rinse, repeat & repurpose!
- Don’t throw out stale cereal (like Cheerios). The tiny shaped objects make for a great counting activity or manipulatives tool for solving word problems.
- Save those wishbones from the Thanksgiving turkey! They make great talking sticks, behavior incentive (who get’s to break it!), and a visual reminder of what we have to be thankful for!
- Kids & Book Jackets Don’t Mix… Snag cheap picture frames at your local discount shop, place book jackets inside, and display on top of your classroom book case!
- With a pair of scissors and a few quick cuts, loose leaf paper makes for great index cards on the fly!
- Instead of buying an enlarged calendar for your classroom/teacher desk, simply use tape on a wipeable surface to create columns and rows. Then fill in the important information each month.
- Save those holiday cards and create a “sight word search” center for students!
- Do you stop at your favorite local coffee shop on the way to work? Keep the styrofoam cups, wash it out, and use as a dice roller for math centers!
(*note: these posts are sent out via BUFFER so they follow Twitter’s rules for word count and I had to get creative!)
Stay tuned for the next edition coming out in a few weeks!
