I Teach…

gift

In the spirit of the Holidays, I am reminded of an important gift I give and receive daily.

Thank you to Stephanie over at Teaching in Room 6 for this awesome blog post idea. She is right. With all that is going on in teaching lately (mostly negative), it is very easy to lose sight of why I teach.  I’ve written about how I got into teaching, but I have yet to write about why I stay in teaching.

So here goes…

I teach because of the moment students’ faces light up in understanding.

I teach because learning can be fun if taught in a particular way.

I teach because students are worth the opportunity to become something greater in their future.

I teach because I love children.

I teach because some populations of students lack a strong role model in their lives.

I teach because I want to instill character and values into my students.

I teach because I am passionate about making the future of my country a better place.

I teach for the bright, bold, and beautiful gems that impact me more than I do them.

I teach for my struggling students who need love and support in addition to content.

I teach because I care to make a difference that will last a lifetime.

Thank you to my students past and present that remind me daily of how lucky I am to be your teacher. I may provide a great lesson once in a while, but you teach me each and every day. I am wiser and more blessed because of you.

*THANK YOU*

Why do you teach?

About the author, Gretchen

I am a teacher trainer and coach. Working elbow to elbow with teachers and teacher leaders to ensure instructional proficiency and student achievement soar lights me up. We have a real need in our nation for strong educators to remain in the field. My blog, book, podcast, courses and instructional materials are geared towards empowering teachers (and those that lead them) to receive the support needed to grow and thrive today, tomorrow and always.
