Hot Tip Tuesday

Each week I bring to you helpful tips to become a more effective educator on the Always A Lesson fan page on Facebook. (Give it a quick like by clicking here!) I decided to start grouping my social media posts into a blog post in case you didn’t catch it in your feed. (Want more? Simply type in ‘Hot Tip Tuesday’ in the search bar on my blog to easily find past editions.)

Time to get caught up:

  1. Send your kiddos personalized “mail” to their desk once a month to remind them of their value as a member of the class.
  2.  Instead of sending home a newsletter to parents, supply one to your kids every Monday morning that let’s them know what learning will unfold that week. If parents want to keep up-to-date, have kids write a class newsletter as an early finisher activity!
  3. Weather can impact student learning moods and motivation. On rainy days, close the binds, light up the room, play catchy tunes, and let positivity spread like wild fire!
  4. Students have access to your social media presence, so use it as another platform to encourage students to become their best selves, persevering through all challenges, and praising the folks that they lean on to get there.
  5. Just like you start the beginning of the year with excitement and high expectations, you should end the year in the same fashion.#consistency
  6. It’s much more efficient to problem solve on the front end vs back end – always complete your own activities before giving them to students!
  7. At the end of the year, allow students to reflect on their own performance as well as yours. Their feedback can change the trajectory of your approach and their effort.
  8. Spend your summer getting your instructional materials organized while you have the time, patience, and clear mind.
  9. Make reading fun and exciting by turning out the lights and using flashlights to practice fluency and comprehension.
  10. Balance is key for success. Live your best life in and out of the classroom by managing your time for all parts of you. Students will learn from your example!
