Field Day

At the end of every school year most schools host some sort of “Field Day” where their students compete in games learned throughout the year in P.E. class. Our school makes the event similar to a mini Olympics. Each classroom chooses a country and makes a banner. We begin our Field Day with a procession of each class by announcing the country and the class runs a lap around the track with their large banner displaying the name of their country and flag.

Our class chose Jamaica. We prepared for our Olympics by listening to Jamaican music on Pandora during workshop times. We watched tourism video clips highlighting Jamaica’s landscapes and leisurely activities. We even watched the Disney movie, “Cool Runnings” to get in the spirit of the Jamaican life (and accent!)

There was a total of 14 stations that students participated in for about 15 minutes each.  The total event lasted from 8:00 am – 11:45 am. To make the day even more special, students brought in $2 and got to enjoy pizza and a movie afterwards. Lots of pictures were taken as students had a blast! Students will surely sleep well tonight… I know I will 🙂

How does your school organize Field Day? I’d love to see pictures of your kids competing!
