41: Do It On Purpose
Many times the struggles occurring in a classroom point back to a decision a teacher did or did not make. Often times its what is omitted from expectations that students exploit and that causes many obstacles teachers are currently facing in classrooms today. Tune in to hear how to do it on purpose to set students and yourself up for success.
Quotables
- Set up thorough routines and procedures
- PTCA = plan, teach, consistency and accountability
- When you are consistent and hold students accountable, they get into shape pretty quickly
- If you don’t take charge in the first 10 min, no wonder a principal doesn’t want to hire you
- 10 min a day x 180 = 1,800 min a year = 30 hours = 5 days of additional instruction
- Transitions = Time, Materials, Order, Volume and Pathway
- Reflection is key to improvement
